NEWS OF THE DAY ~ 12 cycling packages to boost Sabah tourism

Posted on May 3, 2012, Thursday KOTA KINABALU: In the effort to boost tourism in the State, the government through Tourism Malaysia and the players of the industry, will introduce the first 12 cycling packages in Sabah promoted under the ‘Cuti-cuti 1Malaysia (CC1M) Sabah bike ride – Bah, let’s go cycling’, said Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Bolkiah Ismail. He disclosed that the packages were created by Malaysia Tourism in collaboration with tourism agencies and the hospitality industry with the view to promoting the uniqueness of historical locations in the state, an addition to existing domestic tourism products to encourage the locals to spend their holidays in the country, especially in Sabah. “The packages are also offered to foreign tourists and I believe it will be a new attraction in the city and would give an opportunity to tourists to enjoy the beauty of Sabah. “Cycling is an activity in the developed countries which give added advantage to tourists to visit their historical locations as well as to practise a healthy lifestyle,” he said when launching the packages yesterday. The text of his speech was read by the chairman of Sabah Tourism Board, Datuk Seri Tengku Zainal Adlin. Bolkiah said that initially, 21 trishaws will be used to bring interested tourists to visit historical locations in the state capital, while ten hotels located in the city have agreed to cooperate in promoting the cycling packages for tourists staying with them. Also present was director of domestic marketing of Tourism Malaysia, Musa Yusof.
